Hi, I’m Andy B. A Northallerton-based artist.
Over the past few years I’ve enjoyed having the time to pursue my painting. I use oil paint and cold wax mixed in roughly equal proportion. Introducing cold wax to the oil paint tends to speed up the process of painting and demands that I get on with a particular work.
I’m especially interested in capturing the reflective quality of water and the contrast that is often seen in those landscapes that stand out as being special in our natural world.
Mountains, lakes and the coast seem to hold a spiritual quality that I’m still trying to capture and do justice in my paintings.
I’ve also wanted to move my landscapes to a style that’s increasingly more abstract and ‘freed-up’. This is a personal challenge as my natural inclination is to look for the detail in a subject rather than wait for the happy accidents that occur in all art forms.
My paintings are created using brushes, palette knives, rollers and bowl scrapers to work the oil across the board.
